Healthy Living Reading List
Restore Your (Holistic) Health
The Artist's Way (Julia Cameron) The Artist’s Way offers one of the best strategies I’ve seen, and experienced, for figuring out what’s at the root of your health or non-health related mystery & frustration.
Biology of Belief (Bruce Lipton) In The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter And Miracles, Bruce Lipton explains his ground-breaking research that demonstrates how our beliefs change our bodies – right down to the DNA. Dr. Lipton explains how thoughts change the physical structure of your cells. A passionate communicator, this scientist’s work is not to be missed!
The Creation of Health (Caroline Myss & C. Norman Shealy) Medical Intuitive Caroline Myss’ first major publication is one of her best. In The Creation of Health, she teams up with Dr. Norman Shealy to offer insight into how specific life events create specific health challenges. Myss’ rationale is both clear and consistently validated by Shealy’s medical diagnoses. Multiple case histories make this readable book’s point nearly impossible to miss.
Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis (James Oschman) In Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis, James Oschman, a scientist, fills in the gaps for people who want to understand the “hows” and “whys” of how energy changes the body. One of my favorite sections explains how emotions create change in the muscular and skeletal systems – a topic which most other authors tend to ignore. (Candace Pert wrote the forward, the book is by Dr. Oschman.)
Essential Oils Desk Reference (compiled by Essential Science Publishing) Consider this extremely thorough, clear, and easy to use volume if you want to bring the value of therapeutic grade essential oils into your health plan. Without a doubt the best reference on this topic I've seen!
Heal Thyself (Edward Bach) This is the Dr. Bach that developed the Bach Flower Essences. The small volume, Heal Thyself, explains his philosophy on the cause of disease, and why treating symptoms often doesn't work. Support yourself in attaining a state of health!
The Extraordinary Healing Power of Ordinary Things (Larry Dossey) Dr. Dossey scores again with his reminder that healing can come from the simplest things. Sound familiar? Check this out!
Molecules of Emotion (Candace Pert) Candace Pert’s own groundbreaking book, Molecules of Emotion: Why You Feel the Way You Feel, offers scientific validation for the way emotions change the chemical structure of your body. A scientist, Dr. Pert writes in a very accessible, conversational style that makes this fact-filled book easy to read.
Radical Forgiveness (Colin Tipping) Have you ever found yourself in this situation? You know it would be good (for you) to forgive an old hurt. Yet despite your best intentions, it doesn't seem to be happening. If so, Radical Forgiveness will help. It's excellent!
You Can Heal Your Life (Louise Hay) In You Can Heal Your Life, author Louise Hay describes, in very plain language, her experience of healing herself from cancer by changing a destructive emotional pattern. She offers practical suggestions for doing the same yourself. You won’t find a lot of science here, just inspiration.
Get In Shape
American Wholefoods Cuisine (Nikki & David Goldbeck) American Wholefoods Cuisine is not a diet book. It’s a now-classic on preparing healthy, flavorful foods. I hesitate to mention how long I’ve been using it myself (ahem), but it’s a real favorite!
Healing With Whole Foods (Paul Pitchford) If you’re into food energetics (since the purpose of eating is to give you energy, well, think about it...), then check out Healing with Whole Foods.
The RealAge Makeover (Michael F. Roizen) This Real Age is my kind of stuff – like the question about how many nagging unfinished tasks you have hanging over your head...
Science of Being Well (Wallace Wattles) - If you enjoyed Mr. Wattles' book Science of Getting Rich (below), you'll appreciate this one, too. It's yours for free when you subscribe to the Science of Being Well newsletter. You'll find a whole bunch of health tips inside - food for thought for sure!
The Slow Down Diet (Marc David) If stress is a factor in your life (who are we kidding here?), then Slowing Down might be just the trick. This book was highly recommended by a wellness coaching participant.
Yoga Journal's Yoga For Beginners (DVD) This “classic” beginning yoga DVD shows you how to do individual poses, with variations for different skill levels. Work at your own pace.
Abundance & Healthy Business
Multiple Streams of Income (Robert Allen) Protect your wealth-building strategy from unfavorable market trends by diversification. Robert Allen will show you how.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad (Robert Kiyosaki) What do parents of the rich teach their children about money that's different from what poor and middle-class children learn? What did your background teach you about financial security? Check out this informative easy read.
Science of Getting Rich (Wallace Wattles) – the free e-book available on this website offers timeless wisdom about aquiring a prosperity mindset. Aquire your copy as soon as possible (you'll receive it when you sign up for the newsletter). Did I mention it won't cost you a dime? (From the same author as Science of Being Well (mentioned above).
The One-Minute Millionaire (Mark Victor Hansen & Robert Allen) This book is so cool! On one side, all the nuts and bolts people are satisfied by learning exactly what to do. On the other side, you get an inspiring story that shows you how to mobilize your resources to create wealth. Both parts of your brain will be satisfied with this one!
Think and Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill) A true classic in abundance reading, Mr. Hill explains quite clearly how your thoughts influence the material world around you. Read Think and Grow Rich more than once!
Healthy Home & Garden
Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui (Karen Kingston) Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui is small, clear, readable, and very holistic. It’s been on my shelf for a few years now.
Healing Gardens (Romy Rawlings) Lots of gardening books are filled with inspiring pictures. Healing Gardens tells you how to do stuff. Gets my vote!
Organizing From the Inside Out (Julie Morgenstern) This DVD comes highly recommended by one of my most conscientious clients.
Shady Retreats (Barbara W. Ellis) A Shady Retreat. Sounds great, doesn’t it? This idea-rich resource will get you started in the right direction.
