You've probably heard it said that your body is a fantastic natural healing machine. Agreed. Yet there are moments when you wish you could just get your hands on the instruction manual and rev up the engine. Because there are moments when the "on" switch can be painfully hard to find.

One of the most effective things a person can do in those moments is learn to get out of their own way. Enter your Inner Saboteur... That "little fellow" who makes it look like he's watching out for you ... and sometimes actually is ... but very often instead is protecting your "default" position. In other words, your Inner Saboteur does everything in its power to stop you from accepting the exact changes that will open your life to the healing you've set out to find. Right.

Another way to explain this is that you, if you're like most of us, are a master of conflicting intentions. You want to feel better, but it's hard to perceive the insight that would allow it to happen. Your desire to heal conflicts with a desire to protect your sense of how you've "always" survived as a human. Further, you are blind the possibility of choosing present-time comfort over long-term healing. It happens in the background. And there's the rub.

So what's a person to do?

Easy. Get to know your Inner Saboteur so very well that you can pick his "voice" out of the crowd, no matter how confusing things get in your life.

Eavesdrop on him.

Master the phrase, "Thank you for sharing, but I have other things to do today." And then get on with it.

Credibility check!

You may be wondering where I come by this crazy idea. Easy. I'm a bodyworker. Most of my clients are pain patients. We deal in this stuff every day. I know you need some credibility. So I mention these things simply to share that while I've got a good deal of training and experience in holstic health care, I'm also a regular person like you.

Since 1989, I've been learning and observing how human beings "be." In that time, I've earned advanced degrees in developmental psychology (how people come to be the way they are) and energy medicine (how the energy of our thoughts and beliefs affects health) and a specialty certificate in neuromuscular therapy. Experience teaches best, so I also earned a black belt in karate, learned transformational breathwork, and studied with a master in the art of observing nature. Right now, I'm having fun with north-climate organic vegetable gardening.
